Profile of Harry Broekhuijs

I was born in the middle east of the Netherlands in a town called Deventer in 1961. My first reminder of music was on a old trunk-record-player with a changer witch was owned by my parents. I was only 4 years old. The British band "The Scorpions" with the song Hello Josephine, made an incredibly impression. I also was fascinated by the technic of the changer.
At the age of 15, I started a drive-inn discotheek and became a disc-jockey playing music at party's. I got more interested in electronics and made my own light FX's. It went very well and I was powered by a dutch music magazine called the "Hitkrant".
"Disco really made it, its empty and I hate it", is a line out of the song of a Dutch Band called Gruppo Sportivo. That made me think and finally I changed to more alternative, rock and motown music. Bands like "New Order"; Blue Monday, "The Smiths"; Big mouth strikes again, made me aware of my social criticism and social commitment. I started smoking pot, went to festivals, drunk some beers and lived like a "rolling stone". Rock & Roll, the harder the better and with snug guitars.
From the opera "Porgy and Bess" by George Gershwin, I discovered songs about pain and frustration instead of songs about getting or losing your love. I noticed a link between pain and immersion of a song. I love the "black music"of Jimi Hendrix and Prince, but also Marvin Gaye and the Temptations. I met my blues.
I made the mistake by thinking I had to grow up, become a adult, have a education and a proper job. I did a social study and worked about 30 years in the social domain, getting more and more restless.
At my first visit at the SAE institute in Amsterdam it all fell into place.
This is what makes my heart beat. This is what I want to to. No have to do......
I started my education to become a sound engineer and I enjoy it every single moment!
